The Millennium

The artifact everything is named after

A sphere of crystallized time, violet as deep dusk, with something like frozen lightning inside. To Britannia, it's the most dangerous object in existence. To Frysia, it isn't an object at all — it's the living heart of their faith.

What it does, according to the old accounts: sees sixty seconds into the future. Not guesses — certainties. Slows time, accelerates it, folds it.

What it costs is the part the legends agree on most: the Millennium takes memories as payment. Use it long enough and you become a stranger to your own life — someone who knows everything about tomorrow and nothing about yesterday.

For two hundred years it has sat in an enemy vault, and it has burned every hand that touched it. The prophecy says a Bearer comes once in a thousand years — and the last one fell only two centuries ago. Whatever the Millennium is waiting for, it's eight hundred years ahead of schedule.
