Character in the Al Millennium universe

Axel de Jong

A brilliant Frysian hacker whose exceptional technical skills mask a lifetime of loss and oppression, searching desperately for his missing brother Ash. His journey from the work camps to a dangerous mission will test everything he believes about himself and his place in the world.

?

A 24-year-old Frysian hacker whose life has been defined by separation, loss, and the crushing weight of an oppressive system. When Axel was young, his parents made the devastating decision to trade his 4-year-old brother Ash to the Britannians in exchange for temporary security, a choice that has haunted him ever since. At 16, he was sent to the brutal work camps where he endured four years of hard labor and abuse, emerging with exceptional technical skills as his only path to a better life.

Despite his remarkable intelligence and talent with computers and hacking, Axel struggles with deep insecurity and self-doubt. His submissive nature in relationships contrasts sharply with his confidence when focused on technical tasks, revealing a young man whose sense of self-worth has been systematically undermined by years of oppression. He experiences recurring headaches and disturbing visions that disrupt his focus at critical moments, symptoms he doesn't yet understand.

His primary motivation remains reuniting with and saving his brother Ash, a quest that drives every decision he makes. Through his relationship with his mentor Lara and his growing connections with the team, Axel hopes to prove his worth despite his Frysian heritage and create a more equal world where people like him aren't systematically oppressed. His technical expertise makes him invaluable to the mission, though his dependence on others' approval and his deep-seated fear of failure create vulnerabilities that could prove dangerous.

"I have to find Ash. He's all I have left."
