Long before Britannia, before the occupation, before the word Frysia meant grief — there was a sea captain named Adamari, and the ocean chose her.

Power like that sounds like a blessing. It is a weight. The deep is older than any nation, it keeps its own treaties, and the things that live at the bottom of it do not care what humans think they were promised.
